Designing Your Kitchen - The Best Place to Start

May 10th, 2019 11:15 am
Regardless of whether you are a budding chef, love experimenting in the kitchen, or just want to get dinner on the table as quickly as possible, the kitchen in a home is more than just a place where food is prepared these days.

In fact, the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house. It is where families come together, people live their lives and we all know that it’s the place where the best conversations happen. So, having a kitchen that allows you to live your life the way that you want to, is essential.

Whether you have just moved into a new home, or maybe are looking to re-style your kitchen, getting the design of your kitchen right is very important. By having a kitchen that has been designed specifically according to what you want from your space, in a way that fits perfectly and is functional and yet beautifully styled, you can get the most out of your kitchen and love every second that you spend in it.

When you are thinking about designing a new kitchen, however, it can be difficult to know where to start. A modern kitchen is all about a marriage between functionality and style, having it look great, but allowing you to use the space in a way that suits you.
Designing a new and beautiful kitchen can be a daunting prospect, with many variables to consider – from logistical issues such as plumbing and energy, through to aesthetic choices such as colour schemes and cupboard handles.

1.Think about what you want

Let your imagination run wild and think about how your perfect kitchen would be. Think about what you would want to be able to do in your kitchen (even if you think that it isn’t possible), what appliances you have and want to use, how much storage space you need and of course, its style and colour scheme. Try to stay open-minded and use these just as ideas at the moment. From this, you can begin to work out what your priorities are, and what are the more important things to you.

Some other things that you should think about include:
  • Do you want units, stand-alone storage or a mixture of the two?
  • Would you like a kitchen island?
  • How would you like your sink to be?
  • Would you like a ‘living area’?
  • Would you like a ‘flexible area’?
  • Would you like underfloor heating?
  • What kind of lighting would you like?
  • What kind of kitchen layout would you like?
  • Does it need to be child-proof or pet-proof?

2.Visit a showroom

Now that you have a few ideas about what you would like, go to a few kitchen showrooms to see how these kitchens might look to you. You can chat to designers who will be able to talk you through the process of designing and fitting your ideal kitchen, taking into account your wants and needs, and offering ingenious, engineering solutions which can help you to give you the style and functionality that you desire.

By visiting a showroom, you can see how your ideas might actually work and give you a better idea about what your new kitchen could be like and let your imagination spring into life. You can see and touch the kitchens, helping you to envisage how it might work for you. Once that you have a better idea of what kitchen you would like and how it could work, you can hand it straight over to a designer.

Kitchen designers love over-coming the creative challenges of crafting the perfect kitchen for you and your needs. They will discuss in depth exactly what you want from your new kitchen and help your dreams of that perfect kitchen become a reality.

3.Design your kitchen

Working with a kitchen design specialist means that you can use their design skills and knowledge of the latest techniques and trends, as well as have peace of mind that your kitchen will work well and look great.  By having someone who is dedicated to your kitchen project, you will always have someone to ask about any questions that you might have, and someone who can give you updates.

Designing a new kitchen is more complicated than other rooms in your house but is very satisfying, and a good kitchen design team should be able to help you to dream, imagine, plan and make your vision become a reality.
